Wellness and community key to the modern retirement village.

It was a search for retirement accommodation for his own grandmother that inspired Justin Harrison and his father Michael to build The Village Retirement Group, an award-winning industry leader.

The pair’s frustration at the lack of suitable options on the market evolved into a determination to provide communities that support retirees in having the time of their lives.

These villages are not about aged care. Instead, they cater to active, financially secure retirees who want to enjoy life beyond the rat race. Architecturally designed, they have been recognised nationally by the Urban Development Institute of Australia, winning the Best Seniors Living Award and the UDIA President’s Award in 2015. First-time visitors to the company’s villages in Yeronga, Toowoomba, Coorparoo and Redcliffe are often surprised at what they find.

“The whole point of the design of our retirement villages is that they should never look like a retirement village. When people walk in the front door of one of our villages, it’s completely unexpected, the design and the architecture and the facilities that they’ve got,” Mr Harrison says.

“Our philosophy is that our residents deserve five-star living.”
